Protecting your skin and the oceans
An award-winning product including a Gold from The Green Parent Natural Beauty Awards 2018, Shade™ contains just four natural ingredients. With an ideal SPF25, these ingredients moisturise and protect your skin from the broadest spectrum of damaging UVA and UVB rays. Because the ingredients are all natural and Shade™ only use non-nano zinc oxide, it is also safe for marine and coral life. So, not only are you protecting your skin, you are protecting our oceans too.
Packaged in an aluminium tin, it's lightweight and plastic free. So many plastic sunscreen bottles end up in bins and eventually landfills or the oceans, this aluminium-housed sunscreen is a game changer! And the fact that it contains coconut oil means it smells divine too.
"I have looked high and low to find the perfect natural and plastic-free sunscreen which works for both me and my boys. Sunscreen is something I use religiously on my face over my moisturiser, both summer and winter. To say I love this product would be an understatement. It's perfect for my combination skin. My oldest son, aged 7, has sensitive skin and this is one of the only sunscreens that doesn't cause him to hop around screaming 'IT ITCHES!'"

If you like a tinted sunscreen for your face which is extra moisturising, we love Raw Elements SPF30 Tinted Face Moisturiser.

How does SPF actually work?
SPF25 means that the protection is 96% - that also means that 4% of rays are still reaching the skin. The '25' means that you are protected for approximately 25 times the length of time it would normally take you to burn, under the same environmental conditions, without any protection whatsoever.
Unlike many chemical sunscreens, natural sunscreen Shade™ does not contain burn inhibitors which switch off the burning sensation. If you feel you are beginning to burn, your body is warning you that you have been exposed for too long. The sensible approach is to cover up by wearing clothing or move out of the sun altogether. If you apply more sunscreen, it only ensures you are covered for the original 25 x time-frame - it does not extend the amount of time you can stay in the sun. Those 4% of rays are still doing their damage.
It's important that you listen to your body and its signals. The danger of sunscreens that contain burn inhibitors is that the damage is still being done, but you just can't feel it. It's a bit like taking painkillers that mask the pain - ignoring the body's messages that there is a problem does not resolve the problem. For more info on Shade and FAQ click here.
ShadeTM was conceived to take us back to a time when life was simple, and our exposure to dangerous chemicals through personal care and household products was limited. Nowadays, there are too many dangerous chemicals that have found their way into mainstream sunscreens. In turn, they have found their way through your skin – into you! If you’re trying to avoid skin cancer, why use chemicals which are proven to cause it?
To ShadeTM, that simply doesn’t make sense.
At an ideal SPF25, with only four ingredients to moisturise and protect your skin from the broadest spectrum of damaging UVA and UVB rays, ShadeTM have developed their sunscreen to keep your skin naturally healthy. It reflects 96% of the rays that can damage your skin – and threaten your health.
There is no doubt that we need to protect our skin from the sun. But by the same token, we need some sun to generate Vitamin D, an essential nutrient which helps to prevent cancer. Getting sun is the only way our bodies will make it for ourselves. So, our advice is to spend some sensible time in the sun. Make use of hats and light clothing. BUT if you can’t avoid prolonged exposure, ensure you take your 100% natural sunscreen ShadeTM with you!
