The Story of Vera-Bee
Hello. We're Colette & Charlie. We're sisters and best friends (most of the time) and we both live in West Sussex.
Colette loves vintage clothing, chocolate, country walks, flea markets and will give a home to anything old and unloved. Charlie calls it rubbish, Colette calls it treasure. Her nickname is The Womble.
Charlie loves sewing, horses, strawberry gin and true crime. She used to have a life and hobbies but then she had children. Her nickname is Bear. No one can remember why but probably because she is big and hairy.
What we both are, is passionate about living a more eco-friendly and sustainable life. Our aim is to be as zero waste and low impact as possible. We choose biodegradable, compostable or recyclable packaging over plastic and use natural products which are not only free from toxins but are cruelty-free, ethical and sustainable too.
We think that small changes can add up to a big difference and we fully believe that it is not about a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly - it's about millions of people doing it imperfectly.
We support other small businesses like ourselves and we only work with suppliers who share our values and ethos. Most of our suppliers are UK-based and we always try and source products as locally as possible. We thoroughly research each and every one to ensure that they are ethical and we always include information about them on the product page so you can see for yourself.
All our suppliers have a love and passion for what they do, and we think this shines through in their beautiful products. And for most of them, what started as a business relationship has turned into a friendship. Together with you, our customers, they are what makes our business so enjoyable.
We invest all our profits back into growing Vera-Bee. We are constantly stocking new brands and products. And we get very excited whenever a box arrives from a new supplier.
You can rest assured that every Vera-Bee order you receive will be eco-friendly, 100% plastic free and beautifully packaged. We want you to feel like you're opening a gift from us. Everything can be reused and/or recycled. We also ask all our suppliers that they deliver to us plastic free and we reuse all their packaging too. It's the perfect packaging eco-system! What's in a name?
Our name Vera-Bee comes from our beautiful Mummy, Vera, who sadly passed away from ovarian cancer in 2015. She was one incredible lady and we wanted to honour her memory in our business.
The "Bee" bit comes from her love of bumble bees which featured in a lot of her wonderful artwork. She passed on her love of them to us, taught us not to be scared of them, and to show them some respect for the vital work they do for our planet.
Why shop with Vera-Bee?
When it comes to being eco-friendly, we know how difficult it is to make the right choices without being green-washed. We want to take the hard work out of finding natural, sustainable, plastic-free and cruelty-free products.
So, we hunt high and low, test countless products and tirelessly research suppliers to find those that are truly kind to you, this pale blue dot we call home, and the myriad of amazing animals and plants we share it with. We love each and every product we stock and everything is here for a reason. Therefore, you can be confident that any product you buy from Vera-Bee is truly eco-friendly, ethical and sustainable.
We sell everything at the RRP set by our suppliers which means a fair price for everyone and we won't stock anything we consider to be over-priced.
We are always happy to give advice on what products are suitable for you or answer questions about anything. We aim to reply quickly so please do get in touch if you are unsure about something. You can contact us here.
