The science behind oil cleansing...Your skin naturally produces oil which is essential to protect, moisturise and heal itself. However, if you don't regularly remove this oil it can become hardened with impurities and get stuck in your pores. And, this can lead to blackheads, whiteheads, acne and other blemishes.
It doesn't matter what your skin type, oil cleansing is for you. It might sound a little crazy to use oil to cleanse your skin if you are suffering from blemishes or if your skin is already prone to oiliness. But trust us, here's the science bit.
One of the basic principles in chemistry is that "like dissolves like" and therefore the best way to dissolve oil is to use another oil. By using the oil cleansing method, you use clean oils to break down the hardened oil, dirt and bacteria in your pores naturally and gently, drawing them out so they can be washed away. Cleansers containing harsh chemicals strip your skin of your natural oils without replacing them with clean oils. This means your skin will overproduce sebum and oil to replace what is lost. And, that can lead to more breakouts as your pores become blocked.
Oil cleansing will replace the "dirty oils" it removes with "clean oils" to leave your skin healthy, balanced and properly moisturised. In short, just naturally clean, glowing skin.

How to use your oil cleanserStarting with a dirty face (there's no need to pre-clean, even if you are wearing makeup), rinse your face lightly with warm water. Pour the oil in the palm of your hand and massage firmly, but gently, into the skin, always moving upwards. Massage for two minutes, and then let the oil sit on your face for 30 seconds or more if you have time. Apply a warm wet face flannel to your face and hold it there for 10-15 seconds. Slowly begin to wipe off. Rinse your face flannel and repeat until you’ve wiped all the oil off your skin.
That's it, you're done. You can either follow with a toner or just apply your favourite moisturiser.
