ZAO Silk Foundation applies easily and meets the needs of those who like a dewy, luminous complexion with full coverage.

Organic sweet almond oil, jojoba and shea butter give this foundation a deep moisturising effect that nourishes dry skin, as well as organic silica contained in bamboo hydrosol. This foundation has a semi-matt finish and uniform coverage to facilitate a long lasting coverage throughout the day.

Packaged in a glass bottle with bamboo lid and featuring an easy-to-use pump dispenser, the product is attractively presented in a bamboo pouch with drawstring, making Zao makeup both a beautiful gift and an item to treasure.

This product, as with all ZAO products, is free from parabens (synthetic preservatives), using instead micronised silver as an effective and non-toxic preservative. ZAO does not use nanoparticles in their products, with the micronised silver being larger than nanoparticle size, making ZAO products safe and free from toxic preservatives.

Coverage: strong - can be built up.

          How to use

Especially easy to apply thanks to its light texture, ZAO silk foundation is best used with a natural rubber sponge or foundation brush. You can also apply with fingers.

ZAO Beauty Tip: choose a colour that matches your skin tone on face and neck without being too bright or too dark, to avoid the tell-tale 'tidemark' effect on the neck area. Find your skin tone and take into account whether you have warm, cool or neutral undertones to find your best match. Please e-mail us if you need some help in selecting the best colour for you. Apply the foundation from the centre to the outside of your face, blending into the neck area

          About the ingredients

Organic bamboo hydrosol - Derived from the distillation of bamboo leaves, it purifies combination and acne-prone skin by mattifying it. Moisturizing and soothing, it is also beneficial for dry and sensitive skin. Thanks to its high silica content, it leaves a soft touch to the skin.

Organic Jojoba Oil - Calming and softening, this oil penetrates easily into the skin without leaving a greasy feeling. It protects the skin against dehydration and wrinkles. Its dry texture and original composition allows it to strengthen the hydrolipidic film and regulate the sebum flow of oily skin.

Organic sweet almond oil - Very soft, this oil leaves a velvety appearance and a soft touch to the skin. Emollient, it nourishes the skin and protects it from drying out. Softening and strengthening, it activates the regeneration of the skin. Soothing, it calms itching and irritation.

Organic shea butter - Shea butter is extracted from shea nuts, a tree growing only in the wild in the savannahs of West Africa. Its composition rich in fatty acid gives it moisturizing and nourishing properties.

          About responsibly-sourced Palm Oil

Intensive cultivation of palm oil, mainly in Indonesia, leads to massive primary forest destruction in favour of palm plantations. Palm oil and ingredient complexes derived from palm oil are widely used in cosmetic products. Cosmetic industry uses many palm oil derivatives, more difficult to identify, because the word PALM does not appear in the ingredients list.

Zao products may contain palm oil derivatives but it is important to understand that it is difficult for us to exclude them as raw material suppliers do not offer other alternatives. We are forced to find ourselves in this situation. Nevertheless, we are trying to do our best by selecting only RSPO certified palm oil derivatives.

RSPO (Round table for Sustainable Palm Oil) is an association founded in 2004. It aims to promote the growth and use of palm oil that meets specific sustainability criteria at all levels: producers, traders, distributors, etc.

RSPO standard’s set of criteria are applied to all the steps of transformation of palm oil up to its selling. Its aim is to guarantee the traceability of sustainable palm oil, up to the final product.

RSPO certified palm oil shows companies commitment and also certifies sustainability.

You can find more information about RSPO certified palm oil here https://www.rspo.org

RSPO certified palm oil is the best alternative we have at the moment. However, we do not give up and are trying to find new raw materials.

Here is a list of raw materials derived from RSPO palm oil present in ZAO products:

SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, ZINC STEARATE, SUCROSE PALMITATE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERYL CAPRILAT

Our suppliers' certificates guarantee that their raw materials are derived from RSPO-certified palm oil

For other raw materials frequently used as palm oil derivatives, we have managed to find an alternative:

CETEARYL ALCOHOL-coconut oil derivative, STEARATE GLYCEROL-coconut oil derivative, ISOSTEARIC ACID-rapeseed oil derivative

          About Zao

Zao Make-Up is a make-up brand owned by Cosm’Etika France. It was co-founded in 2012 by four friends, David Reccole, Philippe Donnat, Yvan Rouvier and Salima Macozzi Reccole. Lovers of nature and aware of the impact of our consumption on the environment, the four friends chose to develop a brand of organic makeup in accordance with their deep values. They gave birth to Zao Make-Up, the first rechargeable make-up brand, 100% natural and certified organic by Ecocert.

Convinced that a line of certified organic makeup must use a natural packaging, the elegance and modernity of bamboo assert themselves as obvious for David, Philippe, Yvan and Salima. All trees are carbon storers but bamboo’s exceptional growth rate makes it a carbon capture champion during its life-cycle. It allows Zao products to display a reduced carbon footprint.

Bamboo is also incorporated into formulas in the form of sap powder, leaf hydrosol or bamboo rhizome macerate. This plant is rich in organic silica, an element naturally present in our body and that which participates in the process of producing collagen, which preserves the elasticity of tissues.
