About Bambu
Bambu was established in 2003, and their goal has always been to reduce our use and reliance on plastic by providing people with beautiful, non-toxic products made from nature. Both Jeff & Rachel, the founders of bambu, were born in Portland, Oregon – a place that prides itself on local, homegrown and eco-friendly values. When they were relocated to China for work, a place often criticised for its manufacturing processes, they took these values with them. They wanted to see if they could find a way of doing things differently – creating interest and excitement in sustainable materials, whilst adhering to ethical business practices.
Today bambu continue to focus on the same key values. They source materials locally, work with people who work with their hands, and produce safe and durable products that will last for years. The primary material they work with is bamboo – well known these days as an endlessly renewable resource that grows very fast without the need for pesticides or fertilisers – and they also work with other sustainable materials such as cork and organic cotton.
For bambu sustainability goes beyond the balance between what they take from the earth and what they return to it. It is central to how they conduct themselves as a business. They are committed to 3rd party certification and testing, promote fair labour practices and safe working conditions and ‘green’ their supply chain. The result – a number of accolades by leading associations and trade groups. They are a certified B Corp – a community of businesses that balance purpose and profit.
