ZAO Volume and Sheathing Mascara thickens and lengthens lashes, giving more volume to intensify your eyes whilst coating your lashes from root to tip with intense black colour.

How to Refill

To refill your mascara, simply remove the centre that holds the mascara and replace with your new refill. The middle is separated by a metal ring, which makes it easier to pull the empty bottle out. Watch Video on how to Refill your Zao Mascara.

Its formula and the specific shape of the brush can thicken and curl eyelashes to enlarge the eye. Based on very mild organic avocado oil, it is perfectly adapted to sensitive eyes and to contact lens wearers.

Free from synthetic preservatives and chemicals, this mascara reduces the risk of redness and irritation to your eyes. Suitable for frequent use and even ideal for those with sensitive eyes and skin.

You can keep the brush wands to use as eyebrow or lash brushes. They are also used by wildlife organisations to help remove fly eggs and larva from the fur of animals. They work great because the bristles are so close together! It is always worth checking in your local area if there is an organisation near you that are in need of them before you recycle. Reuse. Re-purpose. Recycle.

This product, as with all ZAO products, is free from parabens (synthetic preservatives), using instead micronised silver as an effective and non-toxic preservative. ZAO does not use nanoparticles in their products, with the micronised silver being larger than nanoparticle size, making ZAO products safe and free from toxic preservatives.

          How to use

Before you put on mascara, always make sure your eyelashes are dry and free of cream or oil and if possible dust them with powder (this will give even more volume and staying power).

Open the mascara gently and in one movement, avoid pumping to keep the product on the brush, but make sure that you haven’t overloaded it also. If so just gently remove any excess with a tissue (not at the opening of the bottle).

If you have a few drops of mascara on your skin after you’ve applied it, wait until it is dry, then gently wipe it off with a biodegradable cotton bud.

          About the ingredients

Acacia gum or gum arabic -  comes from the resin secreted by the Acacia Senegal tree, is used as an adhesive agent, to improve the hold of Zao Make-Up mascaras.

Micronised silver powder - These micro-particles of pure silver are antiseptic (especially on skin and mucous membranes) and antibacterial as well, thereby preserving the product and protecting the skin. Micro silver is often used in creams to treat burns. Almost all products in the ZAO range (except the two lip balms) contain micro-particles of pure silver (a natural preservative) instead of synthetic preservatives.

Organic avocado oil - Obtained from avocado pulp, this oil is healing and calming. It works like a wonder on skin irritations. Softening, protective and very soft, it restores elasticity and provides comfort to the skin and takes care of fragile skin. Regenerating and restructuring, it acts against skin aging.

          About responsibly-sourced Palm Oil

Intensive cultivation of palm oil, mainly in Indonesia, leads to massive primary forest destruction in favour of palm plantations. Palm oil and ingredient complexes derived from palm oil are widely used in cosmetic products. Cosmetic industry uses many palm oil derivatives, more difficult to identify, because the word PALM does not appear in the ingredients list.

Zao products may contain palm oil derivatives but it is important to understand that it is difficult for us to exclude them as raw material suppliers do not offer other alternatives. We are forced to find ourselves in this situation. Nevertheless, we are trying to do our best by selecting only RSPO certified palm oil derivatives.

RSPO (Round table for Sustainable Palm Oil) is an association founded in 2004. It aims to promote the growth and use of palm oil that meets specific sustainability criteria at all levels: producers, traders, distributors, etc.

RSPO standard’s set of criteria are applied to all the steps of transformation of palm oil up to its selling. Its aim is to guarantee the traceability of sustainable palm oil, up to the final product.

RSPO certified palm oil shows companies commitment and also certifies sustainability.

You can find more information about RSPO certified palm oil here https://www.rspo.org

RSPO certified palm oil is the best alternative we have at the moment. However, we do not give up and are trying to find new raw materials.

Here is a list of raw materials derived from RSPO palm oil present in ZAO products:

SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE, ZINC STEARATE, SUCROSE PALMITATE, PROPYLENE GLYCOL, GLYCERYL CAPRILAT

Our suppliers' certificates guarantee that their raw materials are derived from RSPO-certified palm oil

For other raw materials frequently used as palm oil derivatives, we have managed to find an alternative:

CETEARYL ALCOHOL-coconut oil derivative, STEARATE GLYCEROL-coconut oil derivative, ISOSTEARIC ACID-rapeseed oil derivative

          About Zao

Zao Make-Up is a make-up brand owned by Cosm’Etika France. It was co-founded in 2012 by four friends, David Reccole, Philippe Donnat, Yvan Rouvier and Salima Macozzi Reccole. Lovers of nature and aware of the impact of our consumption on the environment, the four friends chose to develop a brand of organic makeup in accordance with their deep values. They gave birth to Zao Make-Up, the first rechargeable make-up brand, 100% natural and certified organic by Ecocert.

Convinced that a line of certified organic makeup must use a natural packaging, the elegance and modernity of bamboo assert themselves as obvious for David, Philippe, Yvan and Salima. All trees are carbon storers but bamboo’s exceptional growth rate makes it a carbon capture champion during its life-cycle. It allows Zao products to display a reduced carbon footprint.

Bamboo is also incorporated into formulas in the form of sap powder, leaf hydrosol or bamboo rhizome macerate. This plant is rich in organic silica, an element naturally present in our body and that which participates in the process of producing collagen, which preserves the elasticity of tissues.
